re:organ LABORATORY FOR NEW ORGAN SOUNDS
The organ is sometimes referred to as the “first synthesizer.” In fact, it is more the other way around: many of the sonic possibilities of electronic instruments draw on principles that the organ has known for centuries. The organ and electronics are therefore not opposites, but rather relatives—two sound worlds with similar DNA that can complement, overlap, and merge into one another.
SOUNDSCAPES combines Nordic, Baltic, and Slavic perspectives into an experimental collage featuring rarely performed organ music. The program includes works by Alfred Schnittke, Adrian Foster, and the young Kazakh composer Aigerim Seilova.
The Berlin-based Russian organist Vladimir Magalashvili works precisely at this intersection. His projects often extend far beyond classical organ music, exploring new connections between tradition, sound experimentation, and space.
Music cannot depict landscapes—but it can create inner topographies: through space, movement, temperature, vastness, density, and light.
