Organ concert | St. Sophia's Church | Eckhard Manz

Works by Bach, Szathmary, Ribas-Talens, Gerhardt

As organist and cantor, Eckhard Manz has had a decisive influence on St. Martin's Church as a center for new organ music and church music in the Documenta city of Kassel. With the large new Rieger organ from 2020, he now has a concert instrument at his disposal that is unique worldwide. Since its inauguration, it has inspired numerous renowned composers to write new works and has been used in many different ways for numerous world premieres.

In his concert at the Sophienkirche, Manz presents the musical fruits of his latest work in Kassel. There he worked closely with Frank Gerhardt and Ignacio Ribas-Talens, whose inspiring exchange has been incorporated into the program. He also pays tribute to Zsigmond Szathmáry's close connection to Kassel's Martinskirche, with which he has been associated for many years both as a virtuoso organist and as a composer.

During the organ concerts in the Sophienkirche, a video transmission in the nave allows the audience to experience the organists' fascinating hand and footwork up close.
