limɪn(ə)l flesh – Hybrid Bodies in Becoming

Three performative installations combine the body and movement with wearable structures, video, sound, mechanical systems, and artificial intelligence. The technology directly intervenes in the performers’ movements: it pulls, delays, or influences physical impulses. This creates situations that lie between self-determined action and external control.

 

The exhibition brings together three works from different phases of Ya-Wen Fu’s artistic practice. *The Body in Which I Feel at Home* (2024) subjects the body to a wearable structure made of metal rings and tension springs. *So Absurd!* (2023) explores loss of identity, uprooting, and fear. In the new work *The Unarrived Body* (2026–2027, in development), dance, mechanical control, real-time video, sound, and artificial intelligence converge.

At the subsequent book launch for *SO ABSURD!*, Ya-Wen Fu and Peggy Schoenegge will present their publication, which offers insights into their artistic process and will continue to evolve over several years through an AR feature providing access to animations that are continuously updated through 2031.

 

The title limɪn[ə]l flesh describes a state on the threshold—an in-between space in which the body does not appear as a fixed form but is in a state of constant flux. In her work, the artist explores how technology and social structures influence our actions and where the boundaries between control and self-determination lie.
