Techno has a long tradition in Berlin and is deeply rooted in club culture. #beats: unitedberlin meets techno blends the club culture scene with the contemporary music scene.
The ensemble unitedberlin explores the techno scene. Through a collaboration between composer and techno artist Tsimtsum (Konstantin Heuer) and four Berlin-based composers, a series of works for ensemble and beats is taking shape. Building on a shared exploratory interest in sound, color, rhythm, and spatiality—elements found in both contemporary music and electronic dance music—the project aims to explore all possible compositional approaches: works for ensemble based on composed beat sequences, techno compositions based on ensemble works composed specifically for this occasion, and works created through mutual exchange.
The intriguing question will be: How does this exchange change the artists’ thinking and creative process? Which expectations among which segments of the audience will be met or subverted? What will surprise us? And will we succeed in embedding techno within the context of new music without it losing its original expressive power?
The program is complemented by “Tension” by composer Vito Žuraj and an arrangement of “Autobahn” by the electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk.
